CHILDHOOD

During his youth, Paul Hedgpeth's young family tragically endured the loss of two of his siblings.

DEATH OF BROTHER

October 8th, 1908
Paul, age 18 and his young family grieved the loss of his brother, Samuel Ray Lorentzen, age 20. Known as " Ray " Lorentzen; he was a Student at the University of Southern California at the time of his premature death.

His brothers' passing was particularly hard on Paul, as Ray was his closest sibling.

May 16th, 1912
When Paul was age 22, his family bore the burden of losing his
15 year-old sister, Jennie Lorentzen. She sadly succumbed to Typhoid Fever, after fighting the fever for 4 weeks.

MARRIAGE & FATHERHOOD

September 9th, 1913
Paul Hedgpeth Lorentzen, age 23, married Esther Mary Williams, age 24, in Santa Clara County, California. To this union they were blessed with one son, Paul Williams Lorentzen. Esther tragically passed away shortly after childbirth.

June 18th, 1914
Paul & Esther and their families welcomed the birth of their child, Paul Lorentzen in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, USA. Sadly, Esther was ill from Childbirth complications.

SECOND MARRIAGE

Six years after the premature death of his first wife, Paul Hedgepeth Lorentzen married Miss Bertha Brite in Los Angeles County, California. To this union they were blessed with one girl, Jean Brite Lorentzen.
Tragically Paul's second wife, Bertha, also passed away as a young mother.

BIO NOTES

Paul H. is one of seven children (only five survived to adulthood) born to Paul B. Lorentzen & Sea Pearl (Hedgpeth).

At some point between 1910 and 1914 he married Esther M Williams. They were blessed with a son, Paul William Lorentzen. Unfortunately Esther died just 3 days after his birth.

The 1920 census shows his son Paul W living with grandparents, Paul & Pearl.

By 1921 we find Paul H married to Bertha Brite. In 1923 their daughter Jean was born. Once again though Paul finds himself a widow. His wife Bertha passes away in July 1927.

This time he sends his daughter, Jean to live with Bertha's mother where we find her in the 1930 & 1940 census.
