Johnny Drew Ouzts, PhD, is in the John Calvin Ouzts Line of the family of Elizabeth HARLING and George Peter Ouzts I of Hoffenheim Germany and Edgefield District, SC.

He married Peggy Jo CULP, daughter of Ruth ROBERTS and William Edgar Culp, on August 25, 1957 in Vicksburg, Warren County, MS. They had five children: John Clark, Steven Randolf (Randy), William Bradley (Brad), Cheryl Lynn, and Robert Christopher (Chris).


Dr. Johnny Drew Ouzts, an internationally known entomologist and head of Delta State University's department of biological sciences, died Sunday [October 11, 1993] at Bolivar County Hospital here. He was 57. Burial in the North Cleveland Cemetery. A graduate of Cleveland High School, he completed his bachelor's degree at Delta State and received his master's and doctorate degrees at Mississippi State University. He joined the Delta State faculty in 1964 as an assistant professor of biology after teaching at Cleveland High School and at Mississippi State. He was named associate dean of the college of arts and sciences and head of the biological sciences department at Delta State in 1973. Dr. Ouzts also served as director of the Delta State Center for Alluvial Plains Studies at the Agriculture Department's experimental station at Stoneville. He was cited by the Mississippi Legislature in 1991 with a resolution praising him as ''a highly acclaimed entomologist'' who has been ''recognized for his many publications and contributions in research in the field of entomology.'' He had served as a technical consultant for leading chemical corporations in the United States, Germany, England, Japan, Israel and the Netherlands. He served two terms as a member of the board of trustees for the Cleveland public school system and a four-year gubernatorial appointment to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Conservation. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Peggy Culp Ouzts; a daughter, Lynn Ouzts of Cleveland; four sons, Clark Ouzts, Brad Ouzts and Chris Ouzts, all of Cleveland, and Randy Ouzts of Southaven; his mother, Mrs. Geneva Hodges Ouzts of Cleveland; and two brothers, J.
