Joseph F. Belford, formerly a prominent resident of Platte county, but for several years past living in Omaha, died suddenly in Omaha early this morning. His son, Tom, living near Oconee, received a telegram today announcing his death. The elder Mr. Belford was past 80 years of age. During his residence in Platte county he was assessor in Columbus township for several years. He was also one of the leading men in the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph Belford was born in Illinois. He came from Ottawa, Ill., to Nebraska about 1881, locating on a farm 12 miles north of Columbus on the Monastery road. In 1893 he moved to a farm one mile north of the city. About 14 years ago the family moved to Omaha, where he engaged in the real estate business. Mr. Belford is survived by his wife, six sons and three daughters--Tom, at Oconto; John, Julius and Lester, at home; Dan, in Omaha; Carroll, in Chicago; Lillian and Josephine at home and Sister Mary Winifred, at Sacred Heart convent in Chicago. Tom Belford went to Omaha this afternoon. Funeral arrangements are not yet known here.
