WARD R. HYDE DIED TODAY AT HIS HOME
Ward R. Hyde, 81, of 626 Sixth St., who owned and operated Hyde Bros. Printing Co. in the rear of the St. Clair Building for more that 50 years, died unexpectedly about 8 a.m. today at his home.
Mr. Hyde retired from the printing business on Jan. 1, 1960, with the sale of the firm to John Hushion and M. W. Hushion.
He was born Jan. 30, 1884, in Owego, N.Y., a son of the late Merritt A. and Jessie Russell Hyde. He spent his early life in Owego, coming to Marietta at the age of 15. For several years, he was employed by the Register - Leader.
Mr. Hyde attended the Unitarian Church and was a member of Harmar Lodge No. 390, F.& A.M.; American Union Chapter No. 1, R.A.M.; Marietta Council No. 78, R. & S.M., and a member of the Ad Club. He was presented his 50-year pin in Masonry two years ago.
His first wife, Bertha E. Eikleberry, whom he married in June of 1907, died July 25, 1941. On June 23, 1944, he was married to Leah B. Schmidt, who preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1965.
One daughter, Mrs. James W. Quigley, and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Russell T. Hyde, both of Marietta, survive, with five grandchildren, John W. Hyde of the U.S. Navy, James Russell Hyde of Cincinnati, and Joann Quigley, Barbara Helen Quigley and Robert Fulton Quigley, and two great-grandchildren, Alison Anne and William Russell Hyde of Cincinnati.
Two sisters and one brother survive, Mrs. E A. Palmer and Mrs. Hazel Davis, both of Marietta, and Merritt Hyde of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Two sons preceded him in death. Robert W. Hyde in 1942 and Russell T. Hyde in 1959.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Harold Hadley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alun O. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Harmar Lodge No. 390, F. & A. M., will conduct Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, where friends may call from Wednesday morning.
