Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Friday,, January 19, 1945:
   Mrs. Elizabeth Emma Altefogt, 56, of Glen Carbon Crossing, died Thursday, January 18, at 1:45 a.m. at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, where she had been a patient for observation and treatment for the past week. Mrs. Altefogt had been in ill health for the last two months.
   She was born on April 21, 1888, in Edwardsville township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ernst, Sr. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 56 years, 8 months and 27 days. On October 6, 1908, she was married in Edwardsville to Henry Altefogt who preceded her in death 18 years ago. Mrs. Altefogt was a life-long resident of Edwardsville township and vicinity. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge, Rose Camp No. 1555 and a member of St. Mary's Catholic church.
   She is survived by two sons, Earl and William Altefogt of Edwardsville; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Schroeder of Glen Carbon; four brothers, John Ernst, William Ernst, Joseph and Fred Ernst, and three sisters, Mrs. William Krejci, Mrs. Joseph Werner and Mrs. John Mateyka, all of Edwardsville and vicinity, and two grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:30 at the Lesley Marks funeral home and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Fr. P.P. McGuinness will officiate. Burial will be in the Buck road cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 12 o'clock noon, Saturday.
