Charles Walter Aubert was born April 3, 1840 to George Washington and Elizabeth (Johnston) Aubert in Licking County, Ohio.

He enlisted August 6, 1861 in Co. B, Illinois 41st in Sullivan, Illinois. He was shot in the arm at Pittsburg Landing, at the battle of Shiloh in Tennessee and carried the bullet until his death. He was discharged Oct. 18, 1862 with a disability.

He married Emily Banks. He died June 1911 at Spring Hill and is buried at Webb Cemetery.
