John Adams Barding, aged 78, who for 50 years has been a resident of this community (Oconee, Illinois), died at 6:45 a.m. today Thursday, August 8. 1935 at his residence, 10 miles south of Pana, in Shelby County. Death was caused by cancer (stomach).
John was born at Moweaqua, Illinois Dec. 10, 1856. His parents were James and Anna Edwards Grimes Barding. He and Anna Elizabeth Lockwood were married in St. Louis in 1881. Mrs. Barding died July 2, 1928.

John was a farmer. He moved from northwest of Pana, Illinois to near Oconee several years ago, where he purchased a farm, making it his permanent home. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist church and for more than 30 years was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He leaves one son, Dr. L. D. Barding of Moline, Ill.; four daughters,Susan May (Charles) Howell of Nokomis, Ill.; Martha Ann (Arretus) Burt of St. Louis, Mo.; Ina Olive ("Mildred") James Hughes of Washington, D. C., and Pearl Elizabeth (Alvin) Elam of Oconee. A daughter,Ida Florence Hoover, is deceased, as are two infant sons.

Funeral services for Mr. Barding were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, 1935 at the Kirkpatrick funeral home. Commitment was in Linwood Cemetery, east of Pana. Ritualistic services were conducted by the I.O.O.F. at the graveside.
