Dodd Elder moved from Kentucky to Missouri as a young man. He married Ida Clara
Skelly in Rush Hill, Mo., on Feb. 23, 1881. Seven children were born to the
Elders' union: Will, Carl, Olive Elder Thomas, James Dee, Francis, Clark and
Lillian Elder Bowman. The Elder family came to Pilot Point by train in 1903.
Dodd Elder was associated with the Pilot Point ice and power plant for 15 years
and with the city water works for 11 years. The family's first home later became known as the Garrison house. It was located on the southeast corner of Church and White Streets.
