Death Claims Portlander, 82

Mrs. Alta June Abele died of cancer at a local hospital Saturday after an extended illness. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Finley's Mortuary followed by private committal.

Mrs. Abele was born June 1, 1882, near Lebanon, the youngest of 12 children of Alvah and Emily Davis. She was a resident of Portland since 1900 and was an active member of numerous organizations. She was the widow of Dr. John G. Abele, Portland city health officer for many years who died in 1945.

A member of Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers, Mrs. Abele was a past president and past national secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Spanish War Veterans, and past president of the auxiliaries of the Multnomah County Medical Society and the Oregon Medical Association.

She was an active member, too, of Portland Women's Fortum, Portland Presidents' Club, Portland Sorosis, Monday Musical Club and Shakespeare Club.

Mrs. Abele is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Kilgore, of Portland, and Mrs. George Weinhart, of Mt. Angel; one step-son, Dr. John F. Abele, and one sister, Mrs. James Reiley, of Portland.

The family requests that any remembrance be in the form of a contribution to the Oregon Division of American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
