Stephen Brown owned land on the left side of Brown Bridge Road, which was named for the early Brown settlers, and near Newton County High School. On the right side of Brown Bridge Road lived the Loyalls, whose daughter, Anna, became Stephen's wife.

Death of Stephen Brown. He died suddenly at his home four miles west of Covington on Friday morning, Oct. 2, 1885, of apoplexy (stroke), aged about 64 years. He was one of the oldest and best citizens of Newton County. He was a devoted member of the Methodist church, a true christian, an honest man, a good citizen, an affectionate and kind husband and father, and was highly esteemed by everyone. The STAR extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
