MELVIN "MEL" VANCE BRAXTON 71, died Friday. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, First Baptist Church of Tarboro. With Rev. Eric Crowe officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Snow Hill Cemetery in Snow Hill, NC. Melvin was retired from North Carolina Natural Gas Company and Goodyear Tire Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tarboro where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of Gideons International.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 50 years, Lorraine M. Braxton; daughter, Kim Braxton, Tarboro, Jane Braxton- Williams and husband Jim of Clayton; son, Michael Braxton of the home, Jeff Braxton and wife of Rocky Mount; sisters; Carrie Lee Bowen and husband, Ralph of Ayden, Margaret Barfield, of Snow Hill; grandchildren; April Poage, Dylan Poage, Jeremah Braxton, Thomas Williams, Michelle Williams, and Meredith Williams.
