Her obituary in The San Bernardino County Sun Wednesday, March 29, 1961 reads in part:
Della Hawkins died at her home in San Bernardino Mon after a long illness. A native of Texas she had been a resident of California for 40 years. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Callie Patterson of Amarillo, Texas and Mrs Vada Lowery of San Bernardino; a son, D. E Gates of Cugiak, Alaska; three sisters; two brothers; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
