Cpl Ernest J. King, ASN 06903117, a native of Massachusetts, enlisted in the Army in New York City, NY on Dec 27, 1941. His decision to do so was probably in reaction to the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor less than three weeks earlier.

After completion of basic training, Ernest volunteered for parachutist duty. He was then assigned to F Company, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, joining them at either Camp Blanding, FL or Camp Mackall, NC.

On Dec 27, 1943, exactly 3 years after his enlistment, he and the rest of the regiment boarded the USAT James Parker in New York City harbor. The ship set sail the following morning bound for Belfast, Ireland where they would train for three months before then moving to Nottingham, England.

After another three months of preparation, the 508th boarded aircraft in the evening of June 5, 1944 as they embarked on Operation Overlord. It was at about 0130 in the morning of June 6, 1944 that they jumped into Normandy for the Invasion of France.

It is not known where Cpl King landed in France nor what his personal deeds were, but he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal before he was killed in action just three days later. He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.

His wife Veronica is also buried in this plot (See Veronica King, [1919-1972]
