Nellie first married widower, Charles Augustus Wheeler in Trenton, NJ. He was 18 years her senior in 1911, his first wife, May E. Wilson having died 2 years earlier. Nellie and Charles moved to Brooklyn upon marrying which is where he was from. He died when she was about age 41, in 1933. Nellie and Charles had three children. Nellie married John Peter Klepacki of Brooklyn in 1938. They resided in the Park Slope area and had no children.

She was the second licensed New York City movie theater "Matron" (Usher). Nellie and each of her husbands and children, while young, worked for the Sanders families' movie houses in Brooklyn which included the Globe Theater. In the mid 1920's, Nellie sewed extra long pockets in her boys' knickers to put coins and other found things from the theater seats, while cleaning after movie patrons left.

During her 1st marriage, Nellie worked at Germain's Department Store on 4th Street in the early 1930s in Brooklyn.

Second husband John Peter Klepacki worked as a Long shoreman; BM2 (Boatswains Mate- US-Navy WWII) Bouncer in a bar, Sander's family movie theaters, Pinkerton guard (1950's-1960s)

Nellie was a great cook; she made a fantastic Sunday roast.
