Gladys and Mr. Edwards had a son, Lloyd, who died as an infant in 1919 and twin boys Ivan and Evan that died shortly after birth in 1921 (one boy died shortly after birth and the other lived for less than one day). They did have a fourth son, Melvin Sherman Edwards, who survived childhood, married, and had a son. Melvin was born in 1922 died in January 1978.
Gladys and William Beebe had five children - one son and four girls. Tragically, Gladys died of cancer in 1935. My mom said she remembers hospital staff taking the children up to see her mother Gladys just before she died. Mom said her mother told her, "I hope you never get cancer." Sadly, one of her daughters, Goldie Louise (BEEBE) Heinkel, did get cancer and died at age 48.
After Gladys' death, it was rough going for the family and after one of the boys got into some trouble, Social Services came and took the girls to an orphanage. My mom said they didn't get a lot to eat (or a variety of food!), but they were fed and housed.
Gladys had a headstone, but for some reason it was removed and replaced with the current flat stone. My mom and I placed flowers on their grave during the 2008 Memorial Weekend.
The second photo is of Gladys on her wedding day 11 April 1923. The third photo is of a young Gladys and her sisters, (L-R) Alva, Minnie, Gladys (in center), Valentine and Flora.
Note: Gladys' son, Melvin Sherman Edwards is buried in Springport Cemetery in Harrisville, Alcona Co., Michigan. I don't manage Uncle Melvin's memorial so I can't link him, but his Find A Grave Memorial# is 117550627.
