Catherine Newton, daughter of Sir John Puckering (-1596), Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, and his wife, Jane Chowne, daughter of Nicholas Chowne of Fairlawn, Kent.
The wife of Sir Adam Newton; their only surviving child, Sir Henry Newton, inherited the estates of Catherine's brother, Sir John Puckering, Kt., Bt. (1591-1637) as her brother left no male heirs, but did so on the requirement her son adopt the surname Puckering, which he did, being thereafter known as Sir Henry Puckering or sometimes Newton-Puckering.
