Harold Jackson Cate, 82, of Athens, died Thursday morning, Jan. 15, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Arnold Alfred and Sally Green Cate, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a lifetime farmer and previously owned and operated Athens Case Tractor Store. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathern Rodgers Cate in 1997; and two brothers, Johnny and Howard Cate.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Shackelford of Athens; three grandchildren, Ernie, Sherry and Travis Shackelford; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Lankford; one sister, Avis Cate of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.B. and Joyce Cate, and Kenneth and Elsie Cate, all of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Plemons and the Rev. Carl Creasman officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rick, John, Bob, Jim and Arnold Cate and Mike Shackelford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie and Travis Shackelford, Dewayne Hill and Mark Wyrick.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
