Mr. Hammock

Funeral services for James B. Hammock, 83, of Shawmut will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Brown-Service Funeal Home Chapel, Shawmut.

Mr. Hammock was born in Chambers County Sept. 29, 1893, and died in George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Friday at 2:45 a.m. after a brief illness. He had lived in the Valley area since 1913. He retired in 1958 as an overseer of Shawmut Mill. He was a member of Shamwut United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Shawmut cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Duncan and the Rev. J. H. King will officiate.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Irene B. Hammock; five daughters, Mrs. Velma Cook, Jonesboro, Mrs. Laverne Gray, Forest Park, Mrs. Elvie Boone, Fort Worth, Tex., Mrs. Bertie Mae Godwin, Mesa, Ariz, and Mrs. Bettie Ann Earles, West Point; one son Alfred Hammock, Shawmut; one brother Willie Hammock, Hogansville; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchilden.
