Felix P. "Loogie" Mattern was reunited with his wife in heaven on Saturday, April 10, 2004. Known to many as "Mr. Elmer," he and his family owned and operated Elmer's Restaurants in Billings for 25 years.
Felix was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Strasburg, N.D., to Anna Mary Welk and Anton Mattern. Always determined, Felix made his own successes starting at age 14. A business opportunity in sales brought them to Billings, where they settled permanently and raised their family. Felix and Isabel spent winters in Arizona and always enjoyed golfing, playing cards and visiting fellow snow birds.
Felix died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
