Miss Grissom entered into rest on January 25, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She was born September 3, 1914 in Quitman, LA. She graduated from Highland School of Nursing in 1938 and received a BA degree from San Francisco State. In 1941 She joined the Army Nurse Corps and served in various stations including New Guinea, the Asiatic-Pacific and American Theaters during World War II. She retired as a Major from the Army Nurse Corps in 1964. She moved to Shreveport in 1965 and joined Schumpert as an Administrative Supervisor and in 1967 was appointed Assistant Director of Nursing Services. Miss Grissom retired from Schumpert in 1977 after many years of dedicated service in the medical field. She developed a love for world travel during her years in the service and continued to travel extensively. She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and will be remembered as a devoted daughter, a loving sister and a special aunt who found delight in each and every niece and nephew she had. She was a gracious lady, who led a vibrant life and was endeared by all. We will miss your smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Zinnie and Myrtle Grissom; sisters, Pauline Grissom and Melba Lodee Coleman; and a brother, Selma Grissom.
She is survived by one sister, Zinnie Grissom Burns and husband, Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Daisy Grissom; a brother-in-law, Bud Coleman; six nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude for the loving care given to "Miss Willie" and our family by the entire staff of Merrell Gardens. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
