Born Karol Charles Lonieski Queens, New York, his father was Alexander Lonieski, a carpenter,  and his mother Stella Zarzycki Lonieski. He had four brothers Casimir, Thaddeus, Gabriel and Stanley and two sisters, Wanda Lonieski-Sullivan and Laura Lonieski-Schneider. His parents migrated to the United States from Poland in 1910 , with one child. During High School he was a quarterback on his high school football team and became semi-professional. A *4 foot by 6 foot* portrait of Karl was displayed in a window of the famed Macy*s Department Store in New York City. It was during this time that he changed his given name to Karl and enlisted in the Army serving during WWII as a Sergeant, stationed in Europe. He then became a Police Officer with the New York City Police Department. He received several humanitarian awards and was  featured in New York newspapers for several heroic acts.
His marriage to Anne M. Reich, an Executive with the famed Gertz Department Store came in 1948. After only 17 years of marriage, Karl died of a heart attack in 1965 at the age of 47, leaving his wife Anne as a single mother to raise her two young sons, Karl and Gary. Over the next five decades Anne devoted her time and endless love to her family. As the years passed she always recalled the unending love she and her husband shared – a love that would last her a lifetime. A Christian Mass was held at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Seaford, New York on July 27, 1965.
