Daniel Austin Huston was born February 8, 1832, in Pennsylvania, the son of James Huston.

Daniel married Mary A. Hawk on July 20, 1857, in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Mary was born September 4, 1838, in Northampton, Morrow County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of David Hawk and Mary Thrice Gall (her name is not entirely clear on Mary's death certificate). Daniel and Mary had the following known children:

Mary married Daniel Austin Huston on July 20, 1857, in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Daniel was born February 8, 1832, in Pennsylvania, the son of James Huston. Mary and Daniel had the following known children:

1. Emma Luella Huston (1860-1877)
2. Frank Edwin Huston (1862-1928)
3. Charles Edwin Huston (1864-1934)
4. Hattie Bell Huston (1868-1881)
5. Cora Dell Huston (1870-1871)
6. Nellie Arvilla (Huston) Austin (1871-1959)

In addition to their biological children, Mary and Daniel took in and raised as one of their own children:

7. Edward Franklin Marcellus (1856-1895). Edward was an orphan from New York who traveled on one of the Orphan Trains out west. He was engaged to Mary and Daniel's oldest daughter Emma Luella at the time of her death. Ed was born about 1856 in Ohio, the son of John and Eliza W. (Byrne) Marcellus. He married Belle Campbell. He died in 1895.

Mary and Daniel left Pennsylvania and first moved to Missouri before moving to just north of Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, and then finally moving to Lafayette Township, Nemaha County Nebraska. In addition to farming, Daniel also did freighting work.

Daniel died of typhoid fever on August 21, 1902, in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. Mary was sick at the time of Daniel's death but recovered. She died March 26, 1924, in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. Daniel's obituary was published in The Brock Bulletin August 22, 1902:

Passes Away to His Reward

Daniel Huston, for many years a leading citizen of the community, died at his home in Brock yesterday morning at 2 o'clock from an attack of thyphoid (sic) fever at the advanced age of seventy years, six months and thirteen days.

Mr. Huston was born in Pennsylvania February 8th, 1832 and was united in marriage with Miss Mary Hawk, and has resided in Nemaha county forty-three years. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church

The funeral services were held from the Methodist church this morning, being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Melton, the remains finding a resting place in Lafayette cemetery.

Six children were born to them but three of them died several years ago and the other three are till alive.

A wife, two sons and one daughter, as well as other relatives and friends are left to mourn his departure and to them is sympathy freely extended.

Daniel's headstone states he died on August 22nd, but probate records indicate he died on August 21st. His obituary which was published on August 22nd sates "died at him home yesterday morning".
