A prayer service for Carlton E. Bresett, 68, of 533 Proctor Ave., will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. Spring burial will be in Ogdensburg Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Bresett died Wednesday evening at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital after being stricken at the apartment of his son, Terry W., also of 533 Proctor Ave.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, and a sister.

A daughter, Sharon Louise, died in infancy. Several brothers and sisters also died before him.

He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Watertown, a son of Frank and Anna Klock Bresett. He graduated from Canton High School in 1941.

He married Mary Fournier June 26, 1943, at St. Mary's Church, Massena.

Mr. Bresett served in the Army during World War II, seeing duty in the Asiatic-Burma campaign. He later completed 23 years in the Army Reserve, retiring in 1966 at the rank of master sergeant (E-8).

Mr. Bresett was employed by the New York State Division of Manpower Services in Ogdensburg for 35 years. He served 20 years as a rural manpower representative and 15 years as the local office manager, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Bresett had also owned and operated a dairy farm on the Black Lake Road for four years, in addition to operating a successful residential building contractor business for 17 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Bresett had resided at their Proctor Avenue home since 1950. In March 1990, they purchased a winter home in Mulberry, Fla. Mr. Bresett had flown back north on Tuesday to attend the annual board meeting of the Ogdensburg Federal Savings and Loan Association.

He had been a member of the board of directors of the Ogdensburg Federal Savings and Loan Association since 1966. He served on the board's executive committee and was a former board chairman.

For the past 18 years, Mr. Bresett had been a member of the St. Lawrence-Lewis County Board of Cooperative Education Services and was a former board vice president. He also served on the Ogdensburg Board of Education for 10 years, and at one time was board vice president.

He was a member of the Ogdensburg Rotary Club and past president of the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce.

Active in many fraternal organizations, Mr. Bresett was a member of the Ogdensburg Masonic Lodge, the York and Scottish Rites of the Masons, and a member of Watertown Media Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Ogdensburg Elks Club, Ogdensburg American Legion, and a member and past commander of the Silas Wainwright Post 6338, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Bresett was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He served several terms as church vestryman and was a junior and senior warden.
