Eugenio Montgjo was a Venezuelan poet and essayist. He was awarded the 2004 Octavio Paz prize. He died Thursday, in Caracas.

Mr. Montejo's poetry was best known for its rich texture. His works were published in numerous books in Spanish. His work also reached a wider audience thanks to the 2003 film 21 Grams by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

He served served as Venezuela's Ambassador to Portugal at various times during his lifetime.
