Mary Lee Vann, daughter of Ira Thomas & Lillie Whitaker Vann, was born October 26, 1903, in Madison County, Alabama.

She married married Raymond Hobert Stapler on August 28, 1920 (license date), in New Hope, Alabama (Madison County). The couple was married underneath the old oak tree that once stood at the corner of Main Street and Highway 431, in New Hope.

To this union was born children, Homer Eugene, Mildred Louise (Lemley), Raymond Hobert "Junior", Luther Eural, Arthur Olin, Oscar Leon, Oather Thomas, and Barbara Ann (Phillips). Raymond and Mary were also the parents of baby girl, Betty Jane, who died in infancy.

Mary Lee Vann Stapler is the great-great-granddaughter of John Clan Grayson, the original settler of the Big Cove Community.

She was a member of the Hill's Chapel Free Holiness Church, known locally then as "The Bend" (of Paint Rock).

Mae, as she was commonly known suffered from emphysema, and died from associated complications on February 18, 1966.
