She received her primary education at Rose Hill School District 68, 12½ miles north of Holdrege, through the eighth grade and then graduated from Holdrege High School in 1949 as salutatorian. She then attended Kearney State Teachers College to receive her teaching certificate. Following her education, she taught at Snowball School District 66, Ash Grove School District 9 and then R-7 School, all in Phelps County.
She and her family made their home on the farm south of Holdrege most of their married life. She continued teaching at R-7 School. She later became the librarian while continuing to substitute at R-7 with more than 50 years of total service.
