FRIONA - Virginia Waldean "Dean" Allred, 92, died Sunday, June 1, 2008.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Willow Cemetery in Haskell with family members officiating. Burial will be by Blackwell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allred was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Van Alstyne, Grayson County, to Oliver and Macie Dunnam Hix. She married Ark Allred on Nov. 17, 1933, in Haskell. They owned and operated Ark Allred's Radiator Shop in Haskell from 1950 to 1966. They moved to Houston in 1966 and operated Jacinto City Radiator Shop until his death in 1980.
In 1980, she moved to Clyde, living there until she moved to Friona's Prairie Acres eight years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 22, 1980; a son, Gary Allred, on Feb. 7, 2001; her parents; three brothers, Joe, Loyd and Coyt Hix; and four sisters, Lorena Jobe, Bettie Bruce, Nettie Russell and Moneta Hix. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Davis and husband Taylor of Lake Coleman and Sandra Rainey and husband Bud of Friona; a son, Don Allred of Friona; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Prairie Acres Nursing Home, 201 E. 15th, Friona, TX 79035.
