PRINCETON — Mr. Sylvester Creighton "Ike" Arrington, 89, of Willow Oak Drive, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Phillips Care Home in Lerona.
Born February 17, 1919, he was the son of the late S.R. "Sam" and Letitia A. "Lettie" Lambert Arrington.
Ike got his wish to care for his beloved wife of 69 years, Ruby Elizabeth Wysong Arrington, until her death five months to the day before his own.
Returning home a proud veteran of World War II, he and Ruby ran Arrington's Community Service Store at what is now Melrose Square from 1946 until their retirement in 1980.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Jettie C. "Mom" Blevins Arrington and brothers, Lambert and Victor Arrington.
Survivors: Children, Gerald C. "Jerry" Arrington of Athens, E. Diane and husband Steve Anderson of Camas, Wash., Samuel S. "Sam" and wife Debra Arrington of JoHo Estates, Princeton; grandchildren, Heidi and husband "Jim" Sanders, Keil and wife Brianne Anderson, Eric Arrington, Michael Arrington; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Gage Sanders; sisters, Florence Williams, Hila and husband Richard Lane, Jean and husband Charles Foster.
Funeral services will be held at the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Tracy French and J.D. Clark officiating.
Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton.
Pallbearers will be Eric Arrington, Michael Arrington, Keil Anderson, Jim Sanders, David Campbell and Richard Hypes.
The Arrington family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
