Harlan C. Akin, 74, of 2301 Fairington died at 7:25 a.m. today at Bartholomew County Hospital after a week's illness. He had lived in Columbus since 1946 and was a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Reed and Jewell Funeral Home by the Rev. John Dickey. Persons may call Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Akin was born Feb. 19, 1905, in Lawrence County to John and Dorothy Lee Akin. He married Louise H. Lambrecht in Bedford, Feb. 10, 1929. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last month. He retired from Robertson Chevrolet in Edinburgh in 1970 and had worked part time the last seven years at Columbus Auto Parts.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Jack Akin of Route 6 and Robert Akin of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Lowell Akin of Bedford and Albert Akin of Houston; a sister, Nancy Akin of Bedford; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, LaDonna Sue Akin.
