"Gordon L Nichols, 43, of Washington, NC, died Nov 23, 1982, in Craven County Hospital, New Bern, NC. Mr Nichols was born May 30, 1939, in Spartansburg, a son of Robert and Florence Newton Nichols. He was raised and educated in the Spartansburg area and was a graduate of Spartansburg High School. He later graduated from Wheaton College, Ill. He attained his electrical engineering degree from Gannon University of Erie and worked for Northwestern Electric Co of Erie for many years. He had moved to North Carolina one year ago. He was a member of the Electric Union Local 56 of Erie. Besides his wife, Kathleen Matteson Nichols, he is survived by his parents; one daughter, Caroline at home; two sons, Keith at home and Gregory stationed in the Air Force at Fargo, ND; two sisters, Mrs Roger (Joyce) Coon of Nairobi, Kenya, and Mrs Rev John (Ruth) Shenk of Lebanon, Pa; two brothers, Lee of Elryia, O, and Gilbert of Goshen, Ind; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Marie Nichols. Friends may call at the Spartansburg branch of the Bracken Funeral Home...and attend the funeral service there at 2pm Saturday with Rev Richard K Mercer, Jr, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Titusville, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg."
