"Harry E Firth, 94, of Spartansburg, RD 2, died on Sunday, Nov 26, 1995, in Sunset Manor. He was born in Chester County on May 14, 1901, a son of E Frank Sr and Ida Harrington Firth. He moved to the Spartansburg area with his family as a young boy. He attended school at the Britton Run School and worked with his father on the family dairy farm. During World War I, he worked at the Brake Shoe Company in Erie. Along with operating his dairy farm, Mr Firth took on odd jobs. He bought and shipped hay, ran a thrashing machine and trucked cattle to Norville Reed Auction Barn in Sherman, NY. He moved to his current farm on June 21, 1934. At the age of 89, he retired from trucking. He joined the Pa Holstein Association in 1939 and served as state director for eight years. He also served on the state executive committee and helped manage the show at the Crawford County Fair for 10 years. Mr Firth was inducted into the Pa Holstein Association Hall of Fame in 1981. He also served as Sparta Township Supervisor for 18 years and was a charter member of the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Stechley of Scenery Hill, Betty J Kolaja of Centerville, and Dawn Albers Post of Spartansburg; two sons, J William Firth and Todd A Firth, both of Spartansburg; a sister, Dorothy Spade of Chicago; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr Firth was preceded in death by his wife, Lois I Snapp Firth, on Nov 18, 1993. They were married in Meadville on Sept 30, 1922. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Florence Hampe, Elizabeth Squire, Mary Jane Gregg, Lillian Farrar and Gladys Nichols; and by a brother, Frank Firth Jr, on Sept 17, 1994. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home in Spartansburg...and attend the funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 am with Rev Carl Smeltzer, pastor of the Valley View Mennonite Church in Spartansburg, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg."
