Son of Stephen Van Rensellaer and Julia Ann Moseley Eggleston. Husband of Rebecca Lytle Eagleston. Served in 12th Texas Cavalry Co. D., CSA. He was captain of the guard at the hanging of gunfighter, William Preston "Wild Bill" Longley. (Z. P. put the rope around Bill's neck.)
Z P Eagleston married the sister of my Great-Great Grandfather Harvey Newton Litle. She was Rebecca "Becky" Litle.
Wild Bill Longley was the 1st cousin of my Great-Great Grandmother Sarah Cassilla (Dotson) Joines Johnson.

Gravesite Details

The Eaglestons gave land for the Oak Hill Cemetery and is buried here with his wife, Rebecca Litle Scobey Eagleston. Though spellled with an "a" the name is pronounced Egg el ston.
