Ruth N. Norton, 80, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Santa Ana, Calif. She was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Fulton, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Lena Reese Brown. She married John E. Norton on June 21, 1947, in Jacksonville and he preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1999.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Norton, Sr. (wife, Rose Conant) of San Clemente, Calif.; five grandchildren, Kenneth (wife, Angela) Norton, Jr., Brandon Norton, Kenisha Norton and Kene Jon Norton, all of Los Angeles, Calif., and Keith Norton of Houston, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rev. Abraham (wife, Helen) Brown of Jacksonville; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dola Robinson.

Mrs. Norton was a member of Mt. Emory Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She had been a Mental Health Therapist at Jacksonville State Hospital for over thirty-five years. She had been involved with delivering Doorbell Dinners, participated in bowling leagues for over twenty-five years, and loved to read and to cook. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Services were entrusted to Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Illinois.
