Yvonne Mae was my best friend, and also my mother. I am writing to let you know a little bit about her. She loved Halloween. She always was SO excited to see her kids, or grandkids, or all of her "adopted" grandkids come to her door trick or treating. She would beam ear to ear when she saw them. She loved yellow roses and sunflowers. She could make everything better with just one hug. She baked amazing pies, cookies, and breads...one of my favorite memories is baking with her before Christmas, and sharing our treats with the neighbors. She liked rock music and had a crush on Bono from U2. She used to call "Dial MTV" with me and Christine in the summertime. She loved Neil Diamond too, and we went to a Neil Diamond concert together. She loved to watch movies...and when they were scary she would pound her hands on her legs, and stomp her feet on the floor...this was usually to "help" the person run, or to tell them not to go into that room. Haha!! She loved animals...and she took in whoever needed a home. I remember at one time when I was in college, we had Mr. Green Jeans the bird, Cindy the kitty, Narbles and Beans the guinea pigs, and Savannah our dog. Our house didn't have a basement, so when there were bad storms, all of those pets would get loaded into the closet, before her or I! We used to go to the Mayo Clinic for her appointments, and she loved to eat at the China Dynasty and Red Lobster. (She loved those cheddar biscuits and would stash them in her purse for later.) We had so many funny things happen up there at her appointments...so many stories. She and I could just look at each other, and know what the other thought. This made for interesting situations when we HAD to hold in our laughter. She was a most excellent cook, and she taught me how. Even though she was sick throughout much of my childhood, she always had time for me...looking back on it, I know there were many bad days, when bed would have been a better option¡¦but she still would go for walks with me, sit outside on the blanket while I drew pictures, or come attend my conferences and school events. She was even my "dad" for father daughter date night at Girl Scouts. Yvonne was a friend to everyone she met, and everyone always thought she was awesome...our friends called her mom, and neighbor kids called her grandma. She was the best grandma ever, and the grandkids loved to spend the night with her, and make tents out of blankets, and make treats to eat while watching movies. Little things meant the most. I still have every single one of the notes she wrote me. I miss her every single day. I love you mom. Lori Ann..
