Kathryn Jay graduated from Dublin High School, Erath County, Texas in 1937. During some of her summers she was a Trick Rider for the Coburn Rodeo, and traveled by trains to perform at the Madison Square Garden in New York, and along the way when they needed to exercise the animals. She then attended John Tarleton College in Stephenville, then Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, and graduated from John Tarleton College about 1940.
