Gladys B. Larew, 105, of Hans Creek Road, Greenville, passed away peacefully at home on the ancestral farm on May 10, 2004. Oldest child of Wilbur Lee and Minnie Calloway Broyles, Gladys was born Jan. 31, 1899. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Helen Caudill, Edwin, Otis (infant), Katherine Carr and Alice Long. On Sept. 10, 1919, Gladys married Robert Larew who preceded her in death by 40 years. To this union were born 10 children, Roberta Allison and husband Alvin of Charleston, Robert Larew and wife Celestina of Willow Grove, Pa., Margaret Moore and husband Gene of St. Albans, Genevieve Heatwole of Romney, Conrad Larew and wife Delene, Wilbur Larew and wife Irene, Tully Larew and wife Wilma, Charles Larew and wife Dorothy all of Greenville, Julia Light and husband Buddy of Marie, Helen Sune of Raleigh, N.C. preceded her mother in death. Other descendants include 36 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. In addition, she will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hans Creek Union Church with the Rev. Mikel Pugh and the Rev. Roger Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Larew Cemetery, Hans Creek Road, Greenville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown and at the church one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hans Creek Community Hall Fund or the Centerville Presbyterian Church, Hans Creek Road, Greenville, WV.
