Dr. William Alpheus Shinpock, 75, of Afton, VA, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, in Fisherville, VA.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service. A private interment will be held at Legg Cemetery in Elkmont at a later date.

Dr. Shinpock was born February 23, 1926, in Elkmont, AL, to William Henry and Amy Wallace Shinpock.

He served in the U.S. Navy for the Pacific Campaign during World War II and later attended Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated in 1952 with a doctorate of veterinary medicine, then moved to Virginia, where he built and operated the Animal Clinic of Staunton and Auto Washland from 1954 to 1982.

He was a major contributor to the Shinpock family history documented in "The Heritage of Limestone County, Alabama."

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, William A. Shinpock, Jr.

He is survived by one son, Michael Allen Shinpock of Staunton, VA; one daughter, Dorothy Lynn Shinpock of Moab, Utah; and one grandson.

Married Erma Holden Wigfield on October 3, 1959, Staunton, VA. They divorced on September 12, 1977, Staunton, VA.
