Henry Ludwig Auer, past 81 years old, retired farmer, died this morning at 7:45 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Homer Ummel, in Washington township. Mr. Auer had been in declining health and suffered a stroke of apoplexy Sunday morning. He was born in Fort Wayne on February 13 1862 and was just a month and 7 days past 81 years old. He was a farmer all his life and came to Whitley county from Allen county and resided on a farm in Union township for the past 54 years. Mr. Auer had lived with his daughter since January 6, 1945. He was a son of Jacob and Sophia Ponne Auer. He grew to manhood in Allen county and on November 12 1891, was married to Clara Justine Fiedler of Gar Creek, Indiana, the ceremony being performed at that place. In addition to Mrs. Ummel, Mr. Auer is survived by three sons, Carl J. of Union township, Joseph and Walter W. both of Allen county. A daughter, Esther is dead. There are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren living. His only living sister is Mrs. George Briggeman of New Haven. Two brothers and four sisters are dead. Mr. Auer was a member of the Zion Lutheran church for the past 54 years,. The body was taken to the J. A. DeMoney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm at the Zion Lutheran church and will be conducted by Rev. O. A. Stamm and short services will be conducted at the DeMoney Funeral Home at 2:15 pm. The body may be viewed at the home.
