Lillie, wife of Eugene (NMI) Stevens, was a devoted wife and mother, maintaining the home, whenever the father was sent on assignments, where the family couldn't go. She remained in Ft. Hood, Texas, (which the family considered "Home,") while "Steve" was on active duty in Viet Nam. Their 2 sons were educated in government and local schools, wherever they were assigned.
Lillie enjoyed activities with her family. Many hours were spent fishing and picnicing, wherever they were stationed. She was an avid bowler, participating in many tournaments and winning trophies.
At the age of forty seven, Lillie contracted Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known as the "Lou Gehrig" disease. In a few short years, she became a complete invalid, unable to do for herself or her family. This was such a rare disease, little was known about it or its prognosis, except that it completely destroys the muscles of the body. All the family could do was sit by and try to keep her comfortable.
On May 26, 1971, Lillie died, at the age of fifty one years,in Fitzsimmons Military Hospital,in Aurora, CO. She was buried in Ft. Logan National Cemetary. Lillie and Eugene Stevens had 2 sons, Donald and Rex Stevens.
