Born January 28, 1920 in Mont Alto, PA, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Emma G. (Mentzer) Jones. She lived her early life in Mont Alto.
Mrs. Bakner attended schools in Mont Alto.
She and her husband of over 63 years, Mr. Wilson N. Bakner, were married in April, 1938 in Hagerstown, MD. Following their marriage, they lived in Fairview, PA for six years and moved to their present residence in 1954.
Early in her life, Mrs. Bakner worked at the Mont Alto Shirt Factory in Mont Alto. She later worked as a cook at the Log Cabin Inn and Graffinbery Inn, both of Caledonia, PA. Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was employed as a dietary aide at Mowery Elementary School near Quincy, PA for 31 years.
Mrs. Bakner was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mont Alto, PA, Wesley Sunday School Class, Wesley United Methodist Church Women's Auxiliary, Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and national AARP.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Tedford W. Bakner, Mont Alto and Robert L. Bakner, South Mountain, PA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty G. Cauffman and Hilda M Bakner, both of Mont Alto, and Flo Rock, Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Max I. Jones and Richard P. Jones, both of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Barkdoll and Ruth McFerren, and five brothers, Jack Jones, Robert Jones, Harry Jones, Claude Jones, and Roy Jones.
