Daily News, Huntingdon, PA, Monday, June 23, 1930:
Samuel C. Wagner, of Adams Street, Enola, died suddenly last night about 7:40 o'clock. Mr. Wagner is a freight conductor on the Middle division and was enroute west with a train, when he was suddenly overcome. The flagman of the crew observed the conductor was ill when the train neared Vineyard, and gave him a stimulant. He failed to rally and a dispatch was sent to Huntingdon for a physician to meet the train. Dr. F. L. Schum was summoned but when the train reached Huntingdon life was extinct. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy and heart trouble. Samuel C. Wagner was born at Ickesburg, Perry County, on April 6, 1869, hence was aged at the time of his death 61 years, two months and seventeen days. He was united in marriage with Miss Luella Dell, 28 Jul 1892, Union Township, Huntindon county. Three children survive, Mrs. Ruth Kline, of Harrisburg; George W. Wagner, of Enola; and Mrs. Vesta Smith, of South Enola. Two brothers and one sister also survive, Carrie J. Wagner of Hamburg, near Reading, J.C. Wagner of Sommerdale, PA; and C. N. Wagner, of Harrisburg. Mr. Wagner was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Enola, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Conductors. He entered the service of the Pennsylvania railroad company as a brakeman on November 17, 1891, and was promoted to conductor on September 1, 1919. The funeral arrangements have not been completed, but burial will be made at Enola.
