Custis Parke (Upshur) Nottingham b. August 21, 1852-1920 (buried as Custis Parke Upshur, Ensign, U.S. Navy); George Lyttleton (Upshur) Nottingham b. After Katherine's death, he married Agnes Maxwell in 1868, and they remained together the rest of the Admiral's life; she died on July 2, 1917; Katherine and Agnes are interred with him along with several of their children.

Admiral Upshur was appointed a midshipman on November 4, 1841, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1848, and
his first assignment was with the Mediterranean Squadron.

He also served with Commodore Perry's expedition opening up Japan to commerce.

At the opening of the Civil War, he was serving as an instructor at the Naval Academy at Annapolis.

His last assignment was as Commander of the Pacific Squadron from 1882 to 1885. Rear Admiral Upshur retired on June 1, 1885, and died in Washington, D.C., on May 30, 1917.
