SCHMIDT (Anderson), Karen Ann - Memorial services for Karen Ann Schmidt, age 62, of Myrtle Creek, OR will be held on February 5, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at the All Souls Catholic Church in Myrtle Creek, 1242 NE Spruce Ave. Father Bill Ryan, O.S.A. will officiate. Memorial gathering directly following at the Elks Lodge on Main St, Myrtle Creek. All welcome to come help celebrate Karen's life. Interment will be held on February 5, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Karen was born October 16, 1938 in Russell, Kansas to Henry and Evelyn Nelson. She died in Susanville, CA in an automobile accident on January 25, 2001. Her family spent many years in the Dexter, Fall Creek, Lowell and Pleasant Hill area. She attended school at Pleasant Hill. Her father worked at the Lowell School as custodian for many years. Her mother ran the Fall Creek cafe.

Karen met Lee T. Anderson a timber faller from Dexter. They married on September 3, 1957 in Oakridge, Oregon. After spending time in California and Washington, they settled in Cottage Grove with their three children. She worked for Food Service at Cottage Grove High School for over 10 years. She then was transferred to Myrtle Creek as Director of Food Service in 1985 and retired in 1999.

After the death of her husband Lee in 1989, she met Richard R. Schmidt of Myrtle Creek. They married August 3, 1998. Dick and Karen enjoyed many things together, traveling, dancing, going to church, attending the Elks gatherings and socializing. Mostly they enjoyed their retirement. She will be totally missed by all the lives she has touched.

She is preceded in death by her father Henry, her mother Evelyn, and her husband Lee, sister Roselane, brother Henry Lee. She is survived by her husband Richard Schmidt of Myrtle Creek, OR; daughters and son-in-laws Rose and Mike Blair of Port Orford, OR, Polly and Mark Santiago of Vequita, NM; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Shelena Anderson of Myrtle Creek, OR; granddaughters Miranda and Tameera and grandson Javier; brother Andy Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, brother and sister-in-law Tom and Lorena Nelson of Kelso, WA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Berta and Art McClintock of Prineville, OR, Nancy and Bob Griffin of Cottage Grove, OR; nieces, nephews and cousins; step-daughter and son-in-law Sue and Gary McDonald of Portland, OR, Sheryl Lemming of Reedsport, OR; step-son and daughter-in-law Steve and Letha Schmidt of Riverdale, NJ; step-grandchildren Brynn, Kaylee, Letha and Samantha.
