PETROSS, B. Carl – After a brief illness B.C. Petross passed away Sunday morning at 3 o'clock at his home near the roller mills, surrounded by a loving and devoted family and kind and affectionate friends.

He came home from Eureka Springs on Saturday night, January 13, and took to his bed from which he never arose. His death was due to pneumonia and a complication of other diseases.

Funeral services were held at the Primitive Baptist Church Monday afternoon, conducted by Eld. Jas. Dodson.

The burial services were conducted by the Masonic lodges of this place and Elm Springs and the K of P lodge attended in a body.

Public school was dismissed in the afternoon for the funeral and the remains were followed to their final resting place by a large crowd of friends and acquaintances.

The church was crowded, many being unable to get inside. We do not remember of ever seeing a larger crowd at a funeral in Springdale, which speaks eloquently of the high regard in which the deceased was held by the people of this community.

B.C. Petross was born in Washington County, some 2 miles south of Fayetteville, on October 4, 1855, being the 3rd oldest child of C. and A.C. Petross. On May 2, 1886 he was untied in marriage to Miss Mattie Pruner of Springdale and from this union there were 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, all of whom, together with their mother, survive the deceased. He was a brother of L.D. and L.S. Petross, well known in business circles throughout Northwest Arkansas. His mother and four sisters, Mrs. J.A.C. Blackburn of Rogers, Mrs. Dr. Winton of Elkins, Mrs. Joe Franklin of Dixon, Mo. and Miss Callie, survive him.

Mr. Petross has been actively engaged in business since early youth, most of the time being in the lumber business. Before the advent of the railroad he was interested with his father in a saw mill in the pinery northeast of Springdale in Benton County and later followed the same business in the Choctaw nation. At the time of his death he was operating a mill in Carroll County near Eureka Springs. The deceased was not a member of any church but as an admiring friend said of him, was a better man.[The Springdale News -Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas - January 26, 1900]
