Donald H. Smith, Age 67, lived in Vero Beach. Passed away at his residence after a prolonged illness. Born in Vero Beach and was a lifetime resident. Owned and operated Don Smith's Paint Store on 13th Avenue since 1962. Also owned Don Smith's Paint Store II, Sebastian, since 1980 and Don Smith's Paint Store III, Fort Pierce, from 1980-92. Known as the "Paint Doctor". Member, First Baptist Church, Vero Beach; Sunday School Teach for 30 years. Curch Deacon and Chairman of Curch Deacons for his Church. Veteran of WWII and Korea in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Marine Corps. Member of the Lions Club, was known to the community as "Mr. Lion" and "Pancake Man". President of the Florida Lions Eyebank, Miami, in 1975-76, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1993, Crusader for Lionism Award in 1981, and Lion of the Year in 1967-68 and 1975-76. He was deputy district governor in 1974-75 and Vero Beach Lions Club president in 1969. Member of the Vero Beach-Indian River Chamber of Commerce , where he served on the board of directors.Also member of Downtown Vero Beach Association and the Vero Heritage Center. Director of the Vero Beach Housing Authority, and in 1981 was awarded the Book of Golden Deeds by the Exchange Club. Surviving: Patricia; two sons, Carlton and Claude, both of Vero Beach; three daughters, Jeanne, Julie, and Joane ; four brothers, W.A. Smith, John H. Smith and George B. Smith and Leonard Smith; two sisters, Grace and Virginia; and 11 grandchildren. Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach in charge of arrangements. Funeral at First Baptist Church, Vero Beach, with Dr. Melvin R. Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.
