Mr. Robert Lewis Moxley, Sr., age 77, of Route 1, Soperton, Georgia, died in a Soperton nursing home Friday, December 18, 1992.

Mr. Moxley was born in Montgomery County but had lived most of his life in Treutlen County. He was a son of the late James M. Moxley and the late Mattie Black Moxley. He was a retired Chief of Police for the City of Soperton and he was a member of the Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virginia Phillips Moxley; one son, Robert L. Moxley, Jr. of Soperton; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn M. Burch of Savannah; a son-in-law, Harry B. Burch, III of Savannah; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Brenda Payne Moxley of Soperton; three sisters, Mrs. Shady Wheeler and Mrs. Horace Baker of Soperton, and Mrs. Myles Webb of Vidalia; two brothers-in-law, Horace Baker and Mickey Phillips of Soperton; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Latha Tyson of Adrian, Mrs. Eudora Moxley of Soperton; four grandchildren, David Burch and Rebecca Burch of Savannah and Robert L. Moxley, III and Reagan Moxley of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Moxley were held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton at 2:00 Sunday afternoon, December 20, 1992 with the Rev. Andy Cook officiating. Burial was in the Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Soperton.

Pallbearers were Shannon Moxley, Wendell Moxley, Gaston Wilkes, Alvin Wheeler, Harold Smith and Monroe Moxley. Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton was in charge of funeral arrangements.
