He was married 1st to Gertrude Beecher and 2nd to Eloise Beecher (sisters). He was the father of Walter E. Garrigus.

Attack Fatal to Teacher
Walter H. Garrigus
Dies Suddenly in Twelve
Points Theater.
A heart attack suffered while attending a Twelve Points motion picture house proved fatal Friday night to Walter H. Garrigus, 63 years old, a member of the Gerstmeyer Technical High School faculty since 1924.
The attack victim and his wife were viewing a picture at the Garfield theater when he slumped in the seat. A patron next to Garrigus summoned help and he was rushed to the Union Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A graduate of Rose Polytechnic Institute with the class of 1909, Mr. Garrigus held a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. At the time of his death he was teaching biology and physics at the northside school. He formerly taught auto mechanics and electricity there.
Prior to joining the city school staff in 1922, Mr. Garrigus was employed by the traction company as a nelectrical engineer. He accepted a school teaching position after graduating from Indiana State Teachers College with a B.S. degree and was assigned to Sarah Scott and McLean Junior High Schools.
He was awarded a master's degree in education in 1930 following completion of a course at Indiana University.
Mr. Garrigus was active in the Maple Avenue Methodist Church and was a member of Euclid Lodge No. 573, F. & A. M.; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Evansville, and Zorah Shrine Temple.
Besides the widow, Mrs. Eloise Garrigus, he is survived by a son, Walter E. Garrigus of Bloomington, Ind., a graduate of Rose with the class of 1943; a brother, Sol Garrigus of Terre Haute; a sister, Mrs. Margaret West of Tucson, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the Thomas Funeral Home, where friends may call after 6 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. Thomas Stovall will officiate and burial will be in Highland Lawn cemetery.
