William Perry Clark was born in Millsap, Copiah, Mississippi on December 2, 1877 to Warren Giles Clark and Emily Luella McDonald. Perry, as he was known, was only four years old when his father died July 3, 1881.

He married Martha Lucinda Brown at La Plata City, Colorado, March 21, 1898 and to this marriage were born seven children:
Marian Bertha Clark (1900-1987)
Baby girl Clark (1901-1901)
Charles Vernon Clark (1903-1974)
Roy William Clark (1905-1922)
Jesse Lee Clark (1909-1996)
Laura May Clark (1911-2002)
Martha Luella Clark (1917-1998)
His mother, Emily, shared their home until her death, January 2, 1925.

Perry and his mother came to Colorado, according to his daughter Martha, around 1892 on a cattle drive from Ft Worth, Texas. As soon as he was old enough he began working in the local mines. He was working in the mine on September 5, 1933 when a huge rock fell on him and crushed him beneath. He was transported to the hospital in Cortez, Colorado where he died leaving his wife and sixteen year old daughter, Martha, at the family home.

The burial was held September 10, 1933 in Hesperus, La Plata, Colorado at the Hesperus cemetery.

Perry was 55 years, 10 months and 4 days old.
