Joel Sirrine was born in Idaho but as a small boy he traveled with his family down to Arizona. His father, George Sirrine, was one of the four founders of the city of Mesa and George Sirrine was responsible for the first flour mill in the city and also with the canal system there.
Joel Sirrine was married three times. His first wife was Florence Sellers Sirrine (1874-1892). He married Florence in Oct. of 1890. His second wife was Della Tarr Sirrine (1872-1893)who he married in 1893. She was sick for several weeks and died around Christmas of the same year. Both of these wives are buried in the Mesa City Cemetery. In 1896 he married Carolyn "Carrie" Simkins from Utah. They had three daughters together Gertrude, Florence, and Isabel. Sometime in the early part of the 1900s they moved back to Idaho and settled in Heyburn where Joel Sirrine became a farmer. He died in 1914.
The house that he built for his third wife in downtown Mesa was opened as a museum in 1986 after six years of renovation. Joel had freighted the wood from Prescott for the house and the bricks were made in Lehi. It is known as the Sirrine House. Sadly, due to lack of funds, I have read that the house is only open now for special functions; hopefully that has changed.
