MILLERSBURG -- Thomas "Tom" W. Lea, 89, of Millersburg, died Friday evening, March 21, 2003, at the Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, following a short illness. He was born May 23, 1913, in Delaware County, Ashley, and was the son of Walter and Ruth (Olds) Lea. On October 19, 1940, he married Alice Minard and she survives.
He was owner and operator of Tom Lea Tire in Shreve. He was also co-owner of the Blue Crystal Mines of Killbuck.
He was a member of the Millersburg Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic bodies, past patron of the Eastern Star. He served on the Millersburg School Board, Holmes County School Board and the Buckeye Joint Vocational School Board for a combined total of 34 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Alice, are three daughters and their spouses, Ruth Ann and Richard Weiner of Ithica, New York, Nancy and Lou Kaluza of San Antonio, Texas and Beth Lea of Wooster; special daughter-in-law, Joanne (Stan) Bassak of Uniontown; three grandsons; three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tom Lea Jr., a grandson, Josh Weiner, a brother, Phil Lea and two sisters, Jane Ludman and Joan Atha.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home.
Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic services beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Holmes County Education Foundation, P.O. Box 226, Millersburg 44654.
